Google comes to the UK!
No seriously Google are bringing some new products to our shores. Both Google Home and Google WiFi were exclusive in the USA since their launch last year, but the multinational technology giant are bringing these to our shores.
So what are they?
Google Home: A hands-free smart speaker powered by Google Assistant. It can be used from getting answers from Google, to cranking up the tunes, to sorting out some every-day tasks, or if your phone’s downstairs and you need to text mum, all you need to do is say “Ok Google.”
Home gives you the full power of Google, utilising everything from Search, Maps, Translate and more. It uses a combination of our natural language processing, machine learning and voice recognition to allow users to interact naturally with the Assistant on Google Home.
If you’re in need of a translation or working out difficult calculations, it can do that too. Want to get your daily news fix it can deliver a briefing from publication such as BBC, The Guardian, The Financial Times, The Sun, The Telegraph, Huffington Post, Sky News, Sky Sports and many more.
You can also use Assistant to answer questions about your interests from the weather, to traffic, sports or finance, local businesses and more. For example you need to fill your car up just ask “where is the nearest petrol station?” and then you can follow it up with “what time does it close?” In addition to the helpful it can also have some fun by telling jokes, play trivia or animal sounds.
Google Home will be hitting our stores on the 6th April for £129, and will be available to be purchased from: Google Store, Argos, Dixons, John Lewis, Maplin and EE. In addition coloured bases will also be available from the Google Store, in either Fabric for £18 or metal for £36
Google WiFi: How frustrating is it when your wireless connectivity fails at home, especially when gaming or streaming your favourite film or TV Show. Google WiFi is a home wi-fi solution that works with your modem and ISP to bring you reliable coverage in the home.
Traditionally your home broadband router hasn’t been designed to support the ever-increasing number of devices we use on a day-to-day basis, or even high bandwidth activities including gaming or streaming services. Google WiFi is a connected system that replaces your current router to bring smarts, security and simplicity to home Wi-Fi to give consistently strong coverage in the home.
Google Wi-Fi uses a technology called mesh Wi-Fi (something normally found in expensive commercial installations) Within the Mesh Network each Google WiFi point creates a high-powered connection, for the different points to work together to determine the best path for your data, the result is Wi-Fi coverage in all the hard to reach places.
Google WiFi will be available on the 6th April for £129 for one or a twin pack for £229 (only available from the Google Store) It can be purchased from Dixons, Argos, Maplin, John Lewis and coming soon to Amazon.
